“I DO” Creative Writing Workshops

October 9, 2012

Tomorrow I begin the “I DO”  Workshops through the Agincourt Community Service Association. Their initiative The Forced Marriage Project is dedicated to informing young Canadians about what forced marriage is, who is affects and how to seek help, or how to help someone in crisis.

The workshop uses spoken word as a platform to express issues of forced marriages, gender discrimination and domestic violence. Hands down one of the most challenging workshops to prepare for, I am grateful for the opportunity to work with these young women to tackle these tough issues but also empower them through the written word.

If you know of any young women in the Toronto/Scarborough area who would be interested in participating in this spoken word workshop, you can contact me or the project coordinator Amna Siddiqui at samna@agincourtcommunityservices.com. Workshops are FREE! and include refreshments TTC tokens and volunteer hours if needed.
