POEM: Kind of Cold

December 14, 2010
Monday December 13
-11C with the windshield feels like -23C
 It is still officially fall

Today

is that kind of cold

that eats the jeans off your legs

the kind of cold that make dogs hold in their pee

the kind of cold that

makes eyelashes twinkle and stick

the kind of cold that makes me hate this country

the kind of cold that

you never want to face alone.

the kind of cold

that massacres my toes

the kind of cold that makes me believe that

summer isn’t real, the kind

of cold

that seals my throat with frost,

the kind of cold that can’t get any colder than this

the kind of cold

that numbs the surface of your forehead, the

kind  of

cold

that I wouldn’t wish on my enemies,

that my grandmother runs from,

that makes you forget you have fingers

the kind of cold that is heavy on your skin

the kind of cold

that burries down deep into socks

the kind of cold

you only read about in story-books

the kind of

cold

that kills the homeless

the kind of cold keep dead bodies

from smelling

the kind of cold that

sinks into your

sigh, the kind of cold that

is dangerous to your health

the kind

of

cold

that doesn’t warm up

the kind

of

cold

that cools

Today is that kind of a cold day.
