HYPOTHESIS: The Science of Poetry

June 7, 2010

HYPOTHESIS:

Climbing trees may increase creative thought

Testable statement?

Experiment!

An article from WIRED SCIENCE explores how tree climbing and poetry are interconnected and our ancestors started the whole thing. Click here for the article.

I get jolts of satisfaction in the day,
chatting to a friend,
climbing up a tree a little higher than yesterday
wrote a poem in the leaves

A poem: Composed of two common words made foreign when placed side by side.
\\like coupling people and watching them live//
\\that jolt when thoughts bind//

My poem: here
Someone’s poem: here

EXPERIMENTAL FINDINGS

  • word+word=poetry
  • Poetry = chemical reaction (science!)
  • Science ≠  magic (results only seem like magic)
  • Poetry≈ scientific (or has scientific properties and feels magical)
  • Results in a tree >  results on the ground

And if that makes no sense…take the poll!

Poetry for ∞ !

Interesting, my boys climb trees almost every day, they love it. I’m amazed that my son can even climb a high coconut palm and even a concrete pilar. Both my children love it when I read them Poetry.

reading children poetry starts off the chain of creativity!

oral poetry reading + child’s imagination= endless possibilities!
